Patrick Mullin is a senior-year English and education student, receiving teaching certification​ in secondary-level education. He will graduate with a bachelor's of arts from Moravian College, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 2021.

 

He holds several fulfilled academic and workplace experiences in language education. He is passionate about literature, grammar and theoretical linguistics, and foreign language.

ENGLISH I & ENGLISH II | 2017 - 2018

These two courses were introductory level courses in reading collegiate literature and rhetorical analysis and its writing.

SHAKESPEARE | 2018

This course case-studied William Shakespeare on eleven of his Shakespearen plays, including those from his comedies, tragedies, and histories.

​

CULTURE, COMMUNITY, & DIVERSITY |​ 2019

This course and its dual field experience allowed Patrick to study inclusion practices, through readings and research, while co-operatively student teaching at Bethlehem's Donegan Elementary School.

WRITING ARTS | 200 | 2019

​This course studied common tropes in modern writing practices. This course partially required Patrick to film himself writing and analyze the films to observe which tropes he practices. It also encompassed a research project on community discourse, for which Patrick interviewed five plurilingual Moravian College students and faculty on their English and Arabic usages with a focus on their written intersection online through Arabish, a text-based script.

MODERN DRAMA & THEATRE | 200 | 2019

​This course studied twentieth-century dramatic literature.

​

20TH CENTURY BRITISH LITERATURE | 300 | 2019

​This course case-studied modern eight novels of British literature, especially within their language rich content and symbolic importances.

​

20TH CENTURY AMERICAN LITERATURE | 300 | 2020

This course studied the modernist artistic movement in American literature through novels, novellas, short stories, essay collections, and poetry collections.

​

LITERATURE AND THE WAY WE LIVE | 200 | 2020

This course studied ethical situations in classic and modern world literature to contemplate literature's conversations with philosophy, notably the systematization and defense of arguments in philosophy.

EDUCATION HISTORY | 2018

This course studied the history of education as an institution and home of belief in the United States, with especial attention to its roots in Puritanical religion.

EDUCATING ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS​ | 2019

​This course studied the importance of teaching English language learning students, and considered the theory and teaching strategies for those cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

​This course studied language form and context, practical lexicography, theoretical lexicography, and phonetics and phonology.

 
SPANISH I & SPANISH II | 2019 - 2020

These two courses have provided me a strong understanding of Spanish, both in written and spoken conversation. Additionally, the courses have expanded my abilities to communicate in the global Spanish-speaking discourse community.

ARABIC I AND ARABIC II | 2019 - 2020

These two courses have allowed me a strong understanding of the Arabic alphabet and house of grammar. It has also allowed for conversation building, through their memorization of vocabulary, of which I continue to grow in skillset.

EARLY FIELD EXPERIENCE
DONEGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL | September 2019 - December 2019​

Patrick completed more than forty hours of early field experience at Donegan Elementary School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he co-operatively taught an English as a Second Language class for both fourth and fifth-grade students, as well as assisted in art and math fifth-grade classes.

​

EARLY FIELD EXPERIENCE II 
FREEDOM HIGH SCHOOL | February 2020 - March 2020

Patrick completed three weeks of early field experience at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, interspersed between the February and March that preceeded 2020's springtime quarantine. He co-operatively taught English literature for a ninth-grade class, encompassing short story-reading, from Rudyard Kipling, Shirley Jackson, Saki, and Richard Connell, as well as the first nine chapters of To Kill A Mockingbird.

Patrick was the Director of Communications and, therein, Secretary of Moravian College's Delta Tau Delta social fraternity for students with the highest GPAs. He recorded and managed communication and the fraternity's schedule, as well as its meetings, both Chapter and executive board meetings. He is now its editor.

​

Patrick is the treasurer for the language club El Club de Español. He supports the club in receiving its funding and fundraising in the greater Lehigh Valley-area for local Latinx community organizations.

I am a member of its Operations and Outreach Committee, which appeals to the school's public relations, proposals, and initiatives.

Patrick is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, where I participate in meetings and activities, all of which aiming to support students in the education department.

​Patrick interned for the main office of a private practice speech-language pathologist in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
- Fulfilled marketing work.

Patrich volunteers for this organization through his social fraternity, Delta Tau Delta, in participating in fundraising efforts and hosting its campus events. He works as his Chapter's Philanthropy Chair.

 
CENTER FOR CHAMPIONS TUTORING | 2017 - 2018

Patrick volunteered in tutoring for this organization throughout 2017 and 2018, tutoring students in Harrisburg in reading and math.

Since high school, Patrick has actively participated in not only raising public awareness of the Malala Fund's goal in achieving education equality, but have also fundraised efforts and hosted events for the personally important organization.
